Madison has been looking forward to her birthday since last December! This kid loves birthdays!!!
I have always been a huge fan of birthdays, even now at age 32. It might partially be because I was raised in a busy farmhouse with four other brothers and sisters. July 2nd was the one day per year where I got a whole bunch of attention - and I loved it!
This year we decided to host Maddy's birthday party at our house. I'm still trying to decide whether this was a mistake or not. For the past three years, we have paid to host parties outside of our house, usually at indoor playparks. They are fun, but they go by really fast and they cost a lot of money. In addition, it's difficult to round up the kids as they are running in all different directions.
Hosting a party at home was fun for Maddy, as she loves to show people her house and her toys and her room. We also gave her the freedom to invite more kids, so there were 9 girls that joined us. We also decided to host the party for 3.5 hours, much longer than the usual 2 hour party. I had a few mothers confirm the timing because they thought we were crazy :)
Which....we.....kinda.....were......
The party wasn't really a lot of work in terms of preparation, it just fell at a really really bad time for me in my school schedule so I think it felt worse than it actually was. Both Andrew and I were exhausted at the end of it all and I cannot believe the mess they made and how much food they ate! But Madison had a fantastic day and in the end, a happy girl is all we wanted :)
