Well, we made it to Machu Picchu!!!!!!!!!!! What a glorious remarkable place. No matter how many pictures you see and how prepared you are for it, it's one of those things that takes your breath away. Very similar to the Grand Canyon, the pictures just don't do it justice.
You are in the mountains, up in the clouds, almost in jungle terrain, and there is this amazing city on the top of a mountain. It really is one of the Wonders of the World.
The only thing that would have made that day better was if I wasn't on day three of my food poisoning. Every stair I took (and there are a few at Machu Picchu....) made me want to vomit. I was really sad that I wasn't feeling 100% because I really wanted to climb to the top and to all different edges of the site to explore Machu Picchu from all angles. Poor Andrew had to climb around the rocks by himself.
That aside, it was truly a spectacular experience and I'm glad we got to experience it not only with each other but with Andrew's parents as well.
It's remarkable to hear that Machu Picchu wasn't discovered until 1911 by a Yale professor and explorer. Here are pictures of the trip, including the Sun Gate where the Inca Trail hikers first glimpse upon Machu Picchu. I also wanted to share a picture of the rocks, which were carved all by hand and immaculately placed together with perfect precision.
Was awesome to be with Andrew as he completed his mission and accomplished one of his dreams - to do the Inca Trail and see Machu Picchu. Let's see what adventure he has next for us!
